The Republic of Ireland has deported 35 Nigerian nationals for violating immigration laws. The deportation operation, led by the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB), took place on June 4, 2025, with the individuals removed via a chartered flight from Dublin Airport to Nigeria.
According to official reports, the deportees included 21 men, nine women, and five children, all of whom were part of family units. The Irish government emphasized that the deportation was conducted in line with its rules-based immigration system, ensuring that individuals whose applications for international protection were refused complied with deportation orders.
Irish Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enforcing immigration laws, stating that adherence to legal migration pathways is essential for fairness and order. He noted that this was the third charter deportation operation conducted by Ireland this year and the first such flight to Africa in 2025.
The deportation flight experienced a brief disruption due to a medical emergency onboard, requiring an unscheduled stop. However, officials confirmed that all 35 returnees arrived safely in Nigeria on Thursday morning.
