Israeli Strike on Syria Consular Annex Kills Iranian Commander, Six Others

Israeli airstrikes targeted the consular annexe of the Iranian embassy in Damascus on Monday, resulting in casualties including a top Revolutionary Guard commander and six other individuals, according to Syrian and Iranian officials.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps confirmed that Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and Brigadier General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi were among the seven members killed in the attack.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that 11 people, including multiple Guards members, lost their lives when Israeli missiles destroyed the annexe building. Rami Abdel Rahman, the head of the Observatory, clarified that the casualties comprised eight Iranians, two Syrians, and one Lebanese, all of whom were fighters.

Iran’s ambassador to Syria, Hossein Akbari, provided a lower toll, stating that “at least five people were killed in the attack,” which involved F-35 fighter jets launching six missiles at the building.
