Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has launched the second phase of the Livestock Fattening Programme under the Kano Agro-Pastoral Development Project to combat poverty and promote economic self-reliance.

According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, the initiative targets women across the state’s 44 local government areas, providing livestock to support entrepreneurship among vulnerable groups.

At the flag-off ceremony, Yusuf revealed that 7,158 goats would be distributed to 2,386 women in the current phase, with each beneficiary receiving three goats. Future phases will see the distribution of 1,342 cows and 1,822 rams to women and youths.

The governor emphasized his administration’s commitment to poverty alleviation through innovative and inclusive initiatives, describing the programme as a key effort to empower women and youths while promoting economic independence.

He urged beneficiaries to use the livestock responsibly, stressing accountability and the need to achieve the programme’s objectives.

“This initiative goes beyond livestock distribution; it is about fostering a sustainable economic model that uplifts communities and reduces reliance on government aid,” Yusuf stated.
