Nnamdi Kanu, the embattled leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has voiced concerns over a perceived plot for his demise while in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Speaking before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court Abuja on Tuesday, Kanu, who was denied bail, alleged mistreatment by the secret police and expressed fears for his life.
His lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, requested his transfer to the Kuje Correctional Centre, a plea supported by Kanu himself during his address to the court.
Kanu revealed his battle with Cognitive Heart Disease, dramatically baring his chest to reveal the alleged poor condition of his health under DSS custody.
He accused the DSS of inadequate medical care, alleging a deliberate effort to prolong his detention and prevent his access to proper treatment. Kanu cited a conspiracy to ensure his demise within the DSS facility.
Despite Kanu‘s plea to be transferred to Kuje prison for better healthcare, Justice Nyako declined, citing security concerns and previous escape incidents at Kuje.
An agitated Kanu insisted on the necessity of proper medical attention before proceeding to trial, emphasizing his inability to participate fully without it.
After the court ruling, Kanu made a startling revelation, saying that some government officials are profiting from the insecurity in the South-East. Kanu added that if he is released from court, insecurity in the region will end within “2 minutes”.
