Veteran Nollywood actor and outspoken politician Kenneth Okonkwo has criticized journalist Reuben Abati, accusing him of promoting ethnic division and perpetuating false narratives about land transactions in Igboland.

During a segment on Arise TV, Abati claimed that Nigerians from other tribes, particularly Yorubas, are often denied the right to purchase land in the South-East. His comments have drawn widespread condemnation, with many describing them as an attack on the integrity of the Igbo community.

In an interview with Symfoni News, Okonkwo responded, accusing Abati of harboring bias against the Igbo and behaving unprofessionally. He lamented the divisive nature of such rhetoric, emphasizing that it distorts reality and undermines efforts to build a united Nigeria.

Okonkwo also criticized Arise TV, highlighting its strong support among the Igbo and questioning how the network could tolerate Abati’s remarks.

He stated:
“When someone like Ruben Abati makes derogatory statements about the Igbo, it shows his personal bias. He is not representing the truth, nor is he behaving as a professional journalist. Instead, he is spreading division with his words. This is not the kind of mindset that will help build Nigeria.

“If Ruben Abati hates the Igbo so much, he should resign from Arise Television and stop collecting from them.

“Why work in a place that thrives on inclusivity, where Igbos are contributing significantly to its success, if you despise them? It’s hypocritical, and he should be called out for it.”
