The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Princess Mojisola Meranda, has reaffirmed her position as Speaker, dismissing rumors that she has resigned.

Meranda, who addressed the speculation through her Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye, insisted that she remains in office and is actively performing her duties.

“I’m in the office. The Speaker is in the office. I don’t know where that is coming from,” Ajiboye said.

Describing the rumors as “a lie from the pit of hell,” he added, “There is no truth in the story. I am doing my work as the CPS, the Speaker is in her office as we speak, and everybody is going about their business. We do not know where the story is coming from. The Speaker has not resigned, and there is no plan for that.”

A circular dated February 17, 2025, allegedly from Meranda, has been trending for two days, claiming she had stepped down. However, checks on the document circulating on social media revealed that it was unsigned.

The Lagos Assembly has been facing a leadership crisis since the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru by 36 lawmakers.
