Lawmakers of the Lagos State House of Assembly have apologized to President Bola Tinubu for initiating the impeachment process against former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, SaharaReporters has learned.

The apology came after a directive from the leadership of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision-making body of the Lagos All Progressives Congress (APC), during an emergency meeting at Lagos House, Marina, on Monday night. The meeting was attended by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and members of the GAC.

A source revealed that Tinubu was displeased with the impeachment move and insisted on reversing it. Some GAC members also expressed frustration, claiming they were not consulted before Obasa’s removal and supported the President’s directive for his reinstatement.

The lawmakers were reportedly instructed to write two apology letters to Tinubu. One letter apologized for impeaching Obasa without consulting party leaders, while the other promised to commute his removal to a resignation. Despite internal disagreements within the GAC, the President was said to have pushed for Obasa’s reinstatement to prevent a political crisis and curb the lawmakers’ actions.
