Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has expressed that he is not too young to run for governor of Lagos State.
Speaking on Sunday at the annual Obasa Youth Crusade organized by the Obasa Youth Alliance (OYA) in Agege Local Government Area to celebrate his birthday, Obasa, who turns 52 on Monday, November 11, shared his thoughts on leadership and party loyalty.
Obasa emphasized his dedication to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and stressed that following the partyâs direction takes precedence over individual aspirations.
âAlthough I am not too young to become the governor of Lagos State, our priority should be on advancing the party, not personal ambitions,â Obasa said. âOur focus will remain on fulfilling party mandates, and this is not about individual ambition or any desire to become the governor.â
He highlighted that his primary concern is the development and strengthening of the APC across Lagos, adding, âOur mission is to build and support the party at the grassroots level to ensure it thrives statewide. For those who believe our actions are self-centered, itâs essential to correct that misconception.â
Obasa also urged members to prioritize the party’s success over personal political goals, cautioning against setbacks in upcoming elections.
Reflecting on challenges from the last election, he said, âWe saw how voting patterns were affected by tribal, ethnic, and religious sentiments. It’s crucial to avoid a repeat of that experience.”
He acknowledged that various factors influenced the APCâs performance in the first election, with specific attention given to the Igbo community. âThis was not the first election with Igbo voters in Lagos. They have long been part of the state, so we need to look closely at any underlying issues and address them properly,â he concluded.
