Nollywood couple Lateef Adedimeji and Adebimpe Adedimeji opened auditions for their highly anticipated movie, Ekiti Parapo War, as shared in posts on X.

The film, backed by the Ekiti State Government, aims to depict the historic 16-year Kiriji War (1877-1893), focusing on the Ekiti people’s struggle against oppression by Ibadan forces.

Lateef and Adebimpe, through their production company AL Notions, are seeking male, female, young, and old actors who can fluently speak the Ekiti dialect or Yoruba, encouraging talents to join this world-class project.

The auditions follow a January 2025 announcement where Governor Biodun Oyebanji approved the collaboration, emphasizing the film’s role in celebrating Ekiti’s heritage.

The project, fully funded by the private sector, will utilize Ekiti towns and villages as shooting locations, involving local talent alongside seasoned artists. Adebimpe, a native of Ijero-Ekiti, and Lateef expressed their commitment to delivering a top-notch production, building on their success with films like Lisabi: The Uprising.

The initiative also aims to boost Ekiti’s creative economy, potentially creating jobs for young creatives, as noted by the State Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy.

While this opportunity excites aspiring actors, the call for Ekiti dialect fluency raises questions about inclusivity, could this limit participation from other Yoruba-speaking talents?

Additionally, the film’s historical focus might face scrutiny over how it portrays the complex dynamics of the war, given past tensions between Yoruba sub-groups. For now, this audition call marks a significant step in bringing Ekiti’s history to the global stage through Nollywood’s growing influence.
