In a thrilling Premier League encounter at Anfield on Sunday, January 5, 2025, Liverpool and Manchester United played out an exciting 2-2 draw, with Manchester United’s Amad Diallo scoring a dramatic equalizer in the dying moments of the game.

The match kicked off with both teams creating early opportunities, but it was Manchester United who took the lead in the 52nd minute. United’s Lisandro Martínez capitalized on a well-timed pass from Bruno Fernandes, giving the visitors a 1-0 advantage.

However, Liverpool responded quickly, equalizing just seven minutes later. Cody Gakpo produced a brilliant finish, curling a shot into the top corner to make it 1-1.

As the second half progressed, Liverpool pushed forward, and in the 70th minute, they were awarded a penalty following a VAR review that confirmed United’s Matthijs de Ligt had handled the ball in the box. Mohamed Salah stepped up and calmly converted the penalty, giving Liverpool a 2-1 lead.

With time running out, Manchester United fought back, and in the 88th minute, Diallo scored the equalizer, ensuring the match ended 2-2. Despite their best efforts, Liverpool couldn’t hold onto their lead, and the late goal denied them a crucial three points.

The draw leaves Liverpool five points clear at the top of the Premier League, but a win could have extended their lead even further. Meanwhile, the point allows Manchester United to maintain their pursuit of the top positions in the league.

The match was not without incident, as an advertising board collapsed during United’s celebrations following their first goal, sending several fans and stewards to the ground. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane also made headlines post-match with a harsh critique of Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, questioning his defensive abilities and suggesting he wasn’t suited for a top club like Real Madrid.

The dramatic draw showcased the fierce rivalry between these two iconic clubs and demonstrated the unpredictable nature of Premier League football.
