Liverpool extended their lead to nine points at the top of the Premier League with a crucial 2-0 win over a struggling Manchester City side.

The result leaves Pep Guardiola’s team 11 points behind in fifth place after a seventh consecutive match without a victory, highlighting the scale of their crisis. At Anfield, where City have only won once in their last 22 league visits, their poor form continued.

This marks the first time since 2007 that City have lost four consecutive league games in a single campaign.

Arsenal remain the closest challengers, though they still have work to do after Arne Slot’s team secured their 18th win from 20 matches this season with relative ease. Cody Gakpo’s 12th-minute goal was the only breakthrough in a dominant opening, and it was left to Mohamed Salah to seal the win with a late penalty. This marked his sixth consecutive league match with a goal and his sixth in eight appearances against City.
