Real Madrid legend Luka Modric has officially announced his departure from the club after an extraordinary 13-year tenure. The Croatian midfielder, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the club’s history, will play his final match at the Santiago Bernabéu this Saturday before concluding his Real Madrid career at the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
Since joining Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, Modric has been instrumental in shaping one of the most successful eras in the club’s history. His leadership, vision, and technical brilliance have earned him 28 trophies, including six Champions League titles, four La Liga championships, and five FIFA Club World Cups. In 2018, he broke the Messi-Ronaldo duopoly by winning the Ballon d’Or, cementing his legacy as one of football’s finest midfielders.
In an emotional farewell message, Modric expressed his deep gratitude to the club, his teammates, and the fans. “The time has come. The moment I never wanted to come, but that’s football… I will play my last match at the Santiago Bernabéu. Leaving with a full heart. Filled with pride, gratitude, and unforgettable memories. Hala Madrid and Nothing Else!”
Real Madrid President Florentino Pérez paid tribute to Modric, stating, “Luka Modric will forever remain in the hearts of all madridistas as a unique and exemplary footballer. His legacy will live on forever.”
