French President Emmanuel Macron has responded to a viral video showing his wife, Brigitte Macron, appearing to push his face as they arrived in Vietnam for a Southeast Asia tour. The footage, which quickly spread across social media, captured the moment as the couple prepared to disembark from their presidential aircraft.
Speaking to reporters in Hanoi, President Macron dismissed any speculation of discord, stating, “I was bickering, or rather joking, with my wife. It’s nothing.” He further cautioned against misinterpretations of video clips, emphasizing that online narratives often distort reality.
An official from the Elysée Palace also played down the incident, describing it as a lighthearted moment between the couple before the start of their diplomatic visit. The French leader reiterated that the interaction was not indicative of any personal dispute, urging the public to focus on substantive matters.
Macron’s visit to Vietnam marks the first by a French president in nearly a decade and aims to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties with the former French colony. The trip comes amid growing concerns in Brussels over Vietnam’s recent trade concessions to the United States, which some fear could shift trade dynamics at Europe’s expense.
