Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, has conceded defeat in the 2024 general election.

Speaking at a press conference, Dr Bawumia congratulated former President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on their electoral victory, pending the official declaration by the Electoral Commission.

Acknowledging the will of the Ghanaian people, Dr Bawumia pledged his support for a smooth transition. “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to President-elect John Dramani Mahama. The will of the people has prevailed, and I am committed to ensuring a seamless handing-over process,” he stated.

Expressing optimism about the future, he hinted at a political comeback, saying, “This is not the end of the road for NPP. We may have lost the battle but we haven’t lost the war. We will come back stronger.”

The concession follows the NDC’s decisive victory, reflecting a clear mandate from voters.

Dr Bawumia’s gesture has been widely praised as a significant step toward preserving Ghana’s peace and democratic integrity, a hallmark of the nation’s electoral history.
