Pakistani police have charged a man with murder after he allegedly shot and killed the administrator of a community WhatsApp group for removing him from the chat.

The victim, Mushtaq Ahmed, was reportedly shot dead on Thursday evening in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a province with a history of sectarian violence.

Police documents identify the suspect only as Ashfaq, who allegedly killed Mushtaq after being removed from the group following an argument.

According to a statement by Mushtaq’s brother, the two had arranged to meet and reconcile, but Ashfaq arrived armed and opened fire, killing Mushtaq.

The statement further claims that Ashfaq was furious over his removal from the WhatsApp group, which led to the fatal attack.
