Manchester United have officially confirmed the signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 25-year-old was seen outside Manchester’s Lowry Hotel on Sunday, sparking speculation that a deal was imminent. The club has now announced that an agreement has been reached with Wolves, with the transfer subject to visa approval and registration. Cunha is understood to have signed a five-year contract until 2030, with an option to extend by a further year.

United reportedly activated Cunha’s £62.5 million release clause, part of a recent contract extension signed in February. The fee will be paid in three installments over two seasons, meeting Wolves’ terms. The deal represents a club-record sale for the Midlands side.

Cunha joined Wolves in January 2023 on loan from Atlético Madrid before making the move permanent. He scored 33 goals in 92 appearances and netted 17 times in the 2024/25 campaign. Prior to his time in England, he featured for RB Leipzig, Hertha Berlin, and Swiss side FC Sion after beginning his career in Brazil with Coritiba.

His time at Molineux included disciplinary issues, with suspensions and fines issued for clashes in matches against Ipswich and Bournemouth.

United described Cunha’s arrival as the first of several expected signings under manager Rúben Amorim, who also recently brought in left-back Patrick Dorgu. The club remains linked with Sporting Lisbon pair Pedro Gonçalves and Viktor Gyökeres, as well as Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, while working to retain captain Bruno Fernandes amid interest from Saudi club Al-Hilal.

Meanwhile, Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap is reportedly set for a medical at Chelsea ahead of a £30 million move.
