Mavin Celebrates Rema’s 6-Year Journey in the Music Industry

Nigerian music star Rema is celebrating six years in the music industry, and his record label, Mavin Records, marked the milestone with a special tribute video highlighting his journey.

Sharing the video on social media, Mavin wrote:

“Six years ago, the journey to fulfill the prophecy began. Rema said ‘another banger’ and nothing was the same.

Six years of trailblazing.
Six years of many history-making milestones.
Six years of being ‘the future’.

With all the Ravers around the world, we celebrate six years of Rema today. Cheers to all the many wins ahead.”

A Meteoric Rise

Born Divine Ikubor, Rema first gained recognition in 2019 after his freestyle on D’Prince’s song Gucci Gang went viral. This caught the attention of D’Prince, who signed him to Jonzing World, an imprint under Mavin Records.

That same year, Rema released his self-titled debut EP, which quickly topped Apple Music’s Nigerian charts. His breakout song Dumebi became a massive hit, cementing his status as a rising star in Afrobeats.

Global Stardom and Record-Breaking Success

In 2022, Rema released his debut album, Rave & Roses, featuring international artists like Chris Brown, 6lack, and AJ Tracey. The project performed well globally, but it was the hit single Calm Down—especially its remix with Selena Gomez—that propelled him to new heights. The track peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, making history as one of the biggest Afrobeats songs ever.

Rema’s success has been recognized with multiple awards, including:

  • MTV Video Music Award for Best Afrobeats Video
  • Billboard Music Award for Top Afrobeats Song
  • Soundcity MVP Award for Digital Artist of the Year
  • 1 Billion Global Streams Award during his London concert in 2022

In April 2023, Rave & Roses Ultra became the first African album to surpass 2 billion Spotify streams. Later that year, Rema performed at the prestigious Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris before shutting down London’s O2 Arena with a sold-out headline show.

A Legacy in the Making

From viral freestyles to dominating global charts, Rema’s six-year journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. With Mavin Records and his dedicated fanbase, the Ravers, behind him, the future promises even greater achievements.

As he continues to break barriers, one thing remains certain—another banger is always on the way.
