The Southwest Zone of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has elected Alhaji Musliu Akinsaya, widely known as MC Oluomo, as the union’s National President.
The election took place during the union’s Quadrennial Delegate Conference held at the Zonal Secretariat in Osogbo, Osun State, with delegates from Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti states in attendance.
The conference was monitored by acting National President Aliyu Issa-Ore, who emphasized that the union’s constitution stipulates that the zone whose turn it is to produce the president must elect and present the chosen candidate to the National Secretariat.
The Head of Finance from the National Headquarters in Abuja, Mrs. Adedamola Salam, represented Issa-Ore and confirmed that the Southwest Zone had fully complied with these constitutional requirements in electing Oluomo as President.
In addition to MC Oluomo, the delegates elected Tajudeen Agbede as the Vice President for the Southwest and Akeem Adeosun as the zone’s trustee.
After taking the oath of office, MC Oluomo called on members to maintain peace within the union and reiterated his dedication to unity. “I have forgiven everyone who has offended me, and I hope that those I have offended will also forgive me,” he said. “This is our union, and we must be committed to its preservation. We will not allow anyone to destroy our means of livelihood.”
