A militant group, the Niger Delta Rescue Movement (NDRM), has issued a warning to non-indigenes in Rivers State, urging them to consider their safety and leave due to rising tensions.
In a viral video, the group—dressed in military-style attire—expressed concerns over political instability in the state, particularly threats against Governor Siminalayi Fubara. They condemned certain lawmakers for issuing a 48-hour ultimatum for the governor to present the 2025 state budget, calling it an attempt to incite chaos, possibly leading to a state of emergency or impeachment.
The NDRM called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene, warning that failure to address the issue could have serious consequences. They also threatened to disrupt oil production in the Niger Delta if Rivers State’s allocation is not released promptly, arguing that it is unfair for the state to generate revenue without receiving its rightful funds.
The group reiterated its warning to non-indigenes to leave, cautioning that the situation could escalate. While they stated a preference for a peaceful resolution, they emphasized their readiness to take action to protect the state’s interests.
The development has sparked confusion and concern among residents, raising calls for urgent intervention to prevent further unrest in Rivers State.
