Irv Gotti, the influential music producer and co-founder of Murder Inc. Records, has died at the age of 54. Born Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr., Gotti was instrumental in shaping the careers of prominent artists such as Ja Rule, Ashanti, and DMX. His death was confirmed on February 5, 2025, in New York City.

The exact cause of Gotti’s death remains undisclosed. However, he had a history of health issues, including diabetes, which led to a minor stroke in early 2024. Despite making lifestyle changes and efforts to manage his condition, his health challenges persisted.

Throughout his career, Gotti collaborated with a range of artists, producing hits for Jennifer Lopez, Jay-Z, and Kanye West, among others. He also ventured into television, creating the BET series “Tales.”

Industry figures have expressed their condolences. Lyor Cohen, former CEO of Def Jam, stated, “Def Jam has lost one of its most creative soldiers who was hip-hop.” He added, “He comes from a very tight beautiful family from Queens and it’s an honor and a privilege to have known him. Irv, you will be missed.”

Gotti is survived by his three children: Angie, Sonny, and JJ.
