The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has confirmed the abduction of one of its editors, Gregory Maduakolam, in Owerri, the capital of Imo State. According to a statement released by NAN’s management on Friday evening, Maduakolam was kidnapped on Thursday night.

The statement also mentioned that the exact location of the abduction within Owerri could not be determined. Maduakolam reportedly called a staff member at approximately 7:33 PM on Thursday, informing them that he had been taken by his abductors around 9 AM that day. However, during the call, his captors seized his phone, and he was unable to provide further details, aside from mentioning a ransom demand.

NAN expressed deep concern and sadness over the incident, emphasizing its commitment to the safety and well-being of its staff. The agency is working closely with authorities to ensure Maduakolam’s safe return. It also urged anyone with information to come forward to aid in the investigation.

The full statement concluded: “Our thoughts are with him and his family during this difficult time, and we will do everything possible to secure his safe release.”
