The Joint Action Committee (JAC), which includes the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), has announced the suspension of its nationwide strike, effective November 5, 2024. This strike was initiated due to the withholding of four months’ salaries.

The announcement was made in a circular signed by NASU’s General Secretary, Prince Peters Adeyemi, and SSANU’s National President, Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim.

However, the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) has confirmed it will proceed with its planned protest and picketing of the Federal Ministry of Finance. NAAT’s demands focus on the release of around 50% of withheld salaries for the past five months. The union issued a two-week ultimatum to the federal government on October 30, which will expire on November 13.

NAAT President, Comrade Ibeji Nwokoma, noted that members who have received only one month’s salary out of the expected three are still committed to the scheduled protest. Nwokoma stressed that the protest will go ahead if the withheld salaries are not fully paid within the designated timeline.
