Natasha Akpoti Apologizes to Oby Ezekwesili After Heated Senate Clash

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, has apologized to former Minister of Education Obiageli Ezekwesili following a heated exchange at the Senate on Tuesday.

The clash occurred during a Senate Ethics and Privileges Committee hearing on sexual allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. A verbal altercation reportedly broke out between Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi and Ezekwesili after she told the Ebonyi North Senator and Deputy Chief Whip to “shut up.” In response, Nwaebonyi called her a “hooligan,” prompting Ezekwesili to describe him as a “disgrace to the Senate.” The Senator fired back, labeling her a “disgrace to womanhood.”

On Wednesday, Akpoti-Uduaghan took to her 𝕏 handle to commend Ezekwesili’s integrity and courage while offering an apology.

“Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, Ma’am, I apologize for the insults. Know you took them for me… for us … as a mother and as a leader. Know that you are a true icon of integrity, courage, and visionary leadership. Your unwavering commitment to good governance, education, and democracy continues to inspire generations. A champion of accountability… Nigerians appreciate you. I celebrate your brilliance, resilience, and selfless service. You are a hero,” she wrote.

In response, Ezekwesili assured Akpoti-Uduaghan that she would never walk alone in her fight against the Senate leadership.
