National Grid Collapses Again Amid Scheduled Maintenance on Ife-Ondo Line, Says TCN

Nigeria has once again been plunged into darkness following a fresh collapse of the national power grid on Tuesday. The incident occurred around 2:09 pm, according to an announcement on the National Nigeria Grid’s official X (formerly Twitter) account.

This marks yet another disruption, as the country’s power grid has suffered multiple collapses in recent months. In 2024 alone, the grid has failed at least eight times.

Recently, the collapse affected nine northern states, leaving them without power. The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) has also informed its customers of a “general system collapse” that occurred at 1:52 pm on November 5, 2024. This breakdown has led to widespread power outages across the EEDC network.

Emeka Ezeh, Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC, confirmed the situation on Tuesday afternoon. “Due to this development, all our interface TCN stations are out of supply, and we are currently unable to serve our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Imo States,” he said.

Ezeh added that the company is awaiting further details from the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo regarding the collapse and when supply might be restored.
