The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, which took place from November 14 to December 14, 2024.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday at the NECO headquarters in Minna, the council’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, disclosed that 86,067 candidates registered for the examination, while 84,799 sat for it.
According to Wushishi, 57,114 candidates, representing 67.35%, obtained five credits or more, including English Language and Mathematics.
“The total number of candidates that registered was 86,067, comprising 44,988 males (52.27%) and 41,079 females (47.72%). Of these, 84,799 candidates sat for the examination, with 44,277 males (52.21%) and 40,522 females (47.78%),” he stated.
He further revealed subject-specific performances:
- English Language: 83,220 candidates sat, with 62,929 (75.62%) earning a credit or higher.
- Mathematics: 83,024 candidates sat, with 77,988 (93.93%) securing a credit or above.
- Overall Performance: 57,114 candidates (67.35%) obtained five credits or more, including English and Mathematics, while 70,711 candidates (83.39%) achieved five credits irrespective of these two subjects.
Decrease in Malpractice Cases
Wushishi noted a decline in examination malpractice, with 6,160 candidates involved in various infractions—27.7% lower than the 8,518 cases recorded in 2023.
Additionally, disciplinary measures were recommended for erring supervisors and centers:
- Seven supervisors (two each from Oyo and Ogun States and one each from Lagos, Cross River, and Ebonyi States) were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, lateness, and aiding malpractice.
- Fourteen examination centers—10 in Ogun and 4 in Oyo—were blacklisted for widespread malpractice across nine subjects.

Candidates can check their 2024 SSCE External results by visiting the official NECO website at www.neco.gov.ng and entering their examination registration number.
Wushishi also expressed gratitude to the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, and the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, for their continued support in ensuring the integrity of the examination process.
