Niger state imams have called for the immediate sack of Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye for petitioning the Inspector General of Police and filing a lawsuit against speaker of Niger state house of assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkindaji who proposed a plan to sponsor the weddings of 100 orphan girls.

Speaking after an emergency meeting on Wednesday, May 15, the Imams accused the minister of threatening the speaker.

They also asked her to tender an apology within seven days or face a lawsuit.

According to the Islamic clerics, the minister is unfit to serve in her capacity as they accused her of blackmail for saying they are trying to force underage girls into marriage.
