The Nigeria Police Force has issued a strict warning to citizens, urging them to assist officers who are in danger of being assaulted.

Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, highlighted that failing to help officers in such situations could lead to a fine of N100,000 or a three-month jail term, as outlined in Section 99 of the Police Act 2020.

Adejobi also referred to Section 197 of the Criminal Code Act, which stipulates a two-year prison sentence for resisting a police officer performing their duties.

In a statement shared on X, Adejobi referenced Section 42 of the Police Act 2020, which obliges Nigerians to assist judges, magistrates, police officers, or others lawfully seeking aid in arresting or preventing the escape of a suspect.
