The Federal Ministry of Education has announced the implementation of a new curriculum for basic and senior secondary education.

The updated curriculum, set to commence in January 2025 for basic education and September 2025 for senior secondary education, focuses on equipping students with essential life skills and 21st-century expertise.

According to Education Minister Prof. Tahir Mamman, the new curriculum was developed in collaboration with stakeholders to address the shortcomings of the previous 6:3:3:4 system. The revised curriculum aims to provide students with a minimum of two skills by graduation, enabling them to lead productive lives.

Minister Mamman attributed the failure of the previous system to inadequate implementation. The new curriculum seeks to rectify this by providing a clear learning trajectory for Nigerian students.

This reform marks a significant step forward in Nigeria’s education sector, prioritizing practical skills and preparing students for an increasingly competitive global landscape.
