The Nigerian Army has categorically denied reports claiming Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, has resigned.

An online publication had falsely alleged Lagbaja submitted his resignation letter to the President, citing an assassination attempt as the reason. However, Maj Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, promptly dismissed the claim as “fake news.”

Lagbaja, appointed as the 23rd Chief of Army Staff by President Tinubu on June 19, 2023, remains in office.

His distinguished military career spans various units and formations, including General Officer Commanding Headquarters 82 Division and Commander of Headquarters 9 Brigade, Ikeja.

The Army’s swift denial emphasizes the importance of relying on credible sources to avoid spreading misinformation. Lagbaja continues to serve as Chief of Army Staff.
