Nigerian Content Creator Alma Asinobi Nears Historic Seven-Continent Record

Nigerian travel content creator Alma Asinobi is on the verge of making history as she attempts to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest journey across all seven continents in 60 hours. Having already traveled across six continents, she is now headed to Sydney, Australia, for the final leg of her journey.

Asinobi’s attempt, tagged #AlmaChasingContinents and #7in60, aims to surpass the current record of 73 hours set by Sujoy Kumar Mitra and Dr. Ali Irani. Notably, she is the youngest and only Black solo traveler attempting this feat, using only her Nigerian passport—a challenge that has brought to light the struggles of passport inequality.

Throughout her journey, Asinobi has been vocal about the visa restrictions, expensive travel logistics, and sudden flight cancellations she has faced due to her Nigerian passport. Despite these setbacks, she remains determined to complete what she started.

“Even if I don’t break the record, I just want to finish what I started. I want to prove that limitations are not denials,” she shared.

Her journey, which officially began on March 20 from King George Island, Antarctica, has taken her through Chile (South America), the Dominican Republic (North America), Spain (Europe), Egypt (Africa), and Dubai (Asia).

With her final stop in Australia, Asinobi is on track to complete her journey despite a last-minute boarding denial for her flight to Perth due to visa issues. She was eventually rebooked to Sydney, her preferred destination.

Reflecting on her experience, she wrote:

“Dear green passport, all the hardships we’ve faced so far on this journey, I hope it counts for something. You won’t believe all the privileges, access, and options that were available but not to me, because of the color of my passport.”

Asinobi’s journey has sparked widespread conversations about the difficulties faced by travelers from developing nations and the need for systemic change in global mobility rights. She remains resolute in her mission to fly the Nigerian flag on her seventh and final continent, inspiring others to dream beyond restrictions.
