The Nigerian Government has approved the creation of Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, as part of its national policy to advance technological, vocational, and entrepreneurial education.
A letter dated January 9, 2025, from the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, confirmed that the establishment of the polytechnic aligns with the Federal Government’s goal to ensure every state in the country has at least one federal polytechnic.
The letter was received by the FCT Minister’s office on January 16, 2025.
The letter reads, “In light of this, your Excellency is kindly requested to propose locations for both the Temporary and Permanent sites in Gwarinpa for the polytechnic’s establishment.”
Dr. Alausa further mentioned that a Technical Team from the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) would visit the recommended sites to assess and inspect them. Approval will be granted based on their findings.
He also noted, “At this stage, the Ministry encourages the consideration of taking over existing tertiary institutions, should the Minister find it suitable.”
The new polytechnic is intended to enhance technological, vocational, and entrepreneurial training across the nation.
