Ayra Starr, a Nigerian singer, faced criticism from some Nigerians after she was seen interacting closely with her LGBTQ+ fans, known as “SabiGays,” at a concert in Brazil.
The incident happened during her performance at the C6 Festival in São Paulo on Friday.
The SabiGays, a term coined by the LGBTQ+ community as a tribute to Ayra Starr’s title “Sabi Girl,” were spotted holding signs that read “We Are Your Sabigays” and “We love You Ayra.”
After the event, one of the LGBTQ+ fans, @miketrindade, shared photos of his encounter with Ayra Starr on social media, captioning it “Today I met my Starrrrrr.”
The post quickly went viral, gaining mixed reactions from fans, particularly Nigerians.
Ayra Starr reposted the photos on her Instagram story, showing her support for her LGBTQ+ fans.
It’s worth noting that Ayra Starr had earlier rejected a Nigerian popular musician and fan, Jaywon, who attempted to hold her during the event, sparking a debate about her interactions with fans from different communities.
