The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will begin paying corps members a monthly allowance of N77,000 starting in March 2025, according to its Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu.
Speaking at the NYSC zonal offices in Wuse and Garki, Abuja, on Thursday, Nafiu reaffirmed the scheme’s commitment to corps members’ welfare and urged them to remain disciplined and dedicated to national service.
He highlighted the NYSC’s role in promoting national unity and cultural integration while assuring corps members that the management remains committed to fostering patriotism, leadership, and teamwork.
“NYSC is good at record-keeping. I can assure you that your money will be paid. The nation and the scheme appreciate you,” Nafiu said.
Brigadier General Nafiu assumed office as the 23rd NYSC DG on March 6, 2025, succeeding Yusha’u Ahmed. Upon taking over, he pledged to address concerns regarding corps members’ welfare.
Corps members receive a monthly stipend from the federal government to support their basic needs during their service year. The allowance has been reviewed periodically in response to economic conditions, with the last major increase occurring in 2020, when it was raised to N33,000 following the implementation of a new minimum wage.
The latest increment to N77,000 aligns with the recent adjustment of the national minimum wage.
