Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, are currently staging a massive protest at the Zonal headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

The protest is to demand the immediate release of the over 70 students arrested by officials of the EFCC in the early hours of today.

The arrest of the students took place during a midnight raid on hostels outside the campus.

Multiple sources in Ile-Ife confirmed to journalists that the EFCC officials, around 2 a.m., stormed the Fine Touch and Superb hostels in Oduduwa Estate, Ile-Ife, broke into rooms, and arrested the students.

Reasons for the arrest have not been confirmed as of press time, but the Students’ Union President, Abass Ojo, said the union had details of “72 students picked up from the hostel with phones and cars taken away.”
