The family of the late former Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, who tragically died in a Southern California helicopter crash in February, has taken legal action against the US helicopter company involved.

The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday, alleges that the flight, which also carried former Access Holdings CEO Dr. Herbert Wigwe, his wife, and son, should not have taken off due to dangerous weather conditions.

According to the court filing, Orbic Air, the charter company, is accused of improperly flying the helicopter despite snowy and rainy conditions in the Mojave Desert where the crash occurred on Feb. 9.

The Ogunbanjo family’s legal representative, Andrew C. Robb, emphasized their pursuit of “answers and accountability,” highlighting the unsuitability of helicopters for snowy and icy weather conditions.
