The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has celebrated a historic milestone with Deputy Superintendent of Customs (Pilot) Olanike Nafisat Balogun, who has become the organization’s first female pilot. This groundbreaking achievement marks significant progress in the field of aviation within the service.

According to Abdullahi Maiwada, the Customs’ National Public Relations Officer, Balogun hails from Odo-Otin Local Government Area in Osun State but was born in Kaduna. She joined the service in 2002 as a customs assistant.

Balogun previously served as a cabin crew member in the air wing unit. However, her ambition and determination led her to achieve her dream of becoming a licensed pilot.

Reflecting on her journey, Balogun shared how she chose public service over more lucrative opportunities in the airline industry. “It was a tough decision, but my goal was to contribute to public service and fulfill my dream of becoming a pilot,” she stated.

Her professional achievements include an advanced diploma in Air Ticketing and Cabin Services, a master’s degree in Public Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, and a pilot certification from the Flying Academy in Miami, Florida, all supported by the NCS.

Balogun emphasized the importance of her success as a source of inspiration for women within and beyond the aviation sector. “Becoming the first female pilot in the NCS Air Wing reflects my commitment to advancing both my dreams and the operational capabilities of the NCS,” she said, encouraging young Nigerians, especially women, to pursue their aspirations with determination.
