The Ondo State House of Assembly has commenced an impeachment against the deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

During an emergency plenary session on Wednesday, 9 lawmakers signed a petition accusing the deputy governor of being involved in some acts of gross misconduct while in office as the acting governor, during the absence of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

After the petition was submitted, the Speaker Olamide Oladiji read the charges out before the House. He then directed the Clerk of the House, Benjamin Jaiyeola, to write a letter to Aiyedatiwa on the allegations levelled against him.

The impeachment process had been predicted by some political observers and analysts, following the numerous cases of alleged disloyalty displayed by Mr. Aiyedatiwa during his 3-month stay as Acting Governor. Many had accused him of undermining the governor in order to pursue his 2024 election ambition.
