Osun Crisis: Adeleke Deploys Security To LG Secretariats After APC’S Failed Takeovers Sparks Violence, Killing 5

Violence erupted in Osun State following an alleged attempt by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to seize control of local government secretariats, resulting in the deaths of five people. In response, Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered the deployment of security forces to restore order and prevent further bloodshed.

Tensions between the APC and the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have been escalating, with the APC accusing the PDP-led government of orchestrating attacks on its members and properties. The party’s acting chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, claimed that over 500 APC members had been assaulted since Adeleke took office, with campaign vehicles and billboards destroyed, particularly in Osogbo. “We are under siege,” Lawal said, calling on the Inspector General of Police to intervene.

In reaction to the crisis, Governor Adeleke convened a State Security Council meeting, expressing concern over the violence and stressing the need for security agencies to act with professionalism. He warned against actions that could disrupt the state’s peace and stability.

Meanwhile, PDP chieftain Prince Diran Odeyemi advised the APC to channel its grievances through law enforcement instead of making public allegations.

The situation remains tense as security forces work to contain the unrest and prevent further escalation.
