Governors elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have condemned the recently concluded Edo governorship election, describing it as a “rape of democracy.”
In their statement, the PDP governors stated, “We are still reviewing the documents related to the Ondo elections, where the APC allegedly manipulated results after engaging in vote-buying.”
These declarations were part of the resolutions made during an extraordinary session of the PDP Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) held in Jos, the Plateau State capital, today. Other resolutions from the meeting can be read HERE.
The PDP governors also set a February 2025 deadline for the National Working Committee (NWC) to convene a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.
Regarding the Edo and Ondo elections, the PDP governors remarked, “The Forum expresses deep concern over the manipulation of democracy in the Edo governorship elections. It is evident to all fair-minded individuals that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) altered results in favor of the APC candidate, despite the fact that the majority of legitimate votes were cast for the PDP candidate, Mr. Asue Ighodalo. We are also scrutinizing the documents regarding the Ondo elections, where the APC was accused of manipulating results after openly engaging in vote-buying.”
The governors further urged the judiciary to protect Nigeria’s democracy and called on the National Assembly to review electoral laws to prevent institutional sabotage of the people’s will.
Notable attendees of the meeting included Governors Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Barr. Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau, host), H.E. Dr. Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Hon. Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), H.E. Seyi Makinde (Oyo), and H.E. Dauda Lawal (Zamfara). Also present were Deputy Governors Sir Monday Onyeme (Delta) and Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai (Enugu).
