“Pierced But Not Broken” – Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Slams 180-Day Senate Suspension

Suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has once again spoken out against her 180-day suspension from the Senate, insisting that the action is unjust and will not stand.

She emphasized that her suspension was not an expulsion from the Senate but merely a temporary measure.

The Senate had earlier on Thursday suspended Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months over alleged violations of Senate rules and misconduct. The decision followed a recent confrontation with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements in the chamber. Days later, the female senator escalated the controversy by accusing Akpabio of sexual harassment, abuse of office, and deliberately obstructing her legislative functions after she allegedly rejected his advances.

Hours after her suspension was announced, Akpoti-Uduaghan took to social media to reaffirm her stance, echoing what she told colleagues as she exited the chamber: “This injustice will not be sustained!”

She further encouraged herself, writing:

“Suspended, not expelled.

“Pierced but not broken.

“The voice may be temporarily tamed but cannot be silenced.”

She also praised her own resilience, adding:

“I salute your courage, my distinguished Senator Natasha H. Akpoti, in the face of this storm. My confidence is in the fact that, just like the other storms, you will come out victorious and better prepared to serve your people.”
