On August 1, 2024, law enforcement personnel in Abuja utilized teargas to disperse protesters assembled near the federal secretariat, part of a countrywide demonstration against economic hardship and soaring inflation.

The “10 days of rage” protests, which commenced today, aim to prompt decisive government action addressing economic hardship, inflation, and police brutality.

Despite a court injunction restricting protests to the MKO Abiola stadium, a group of protesters defied the order and gathered near the federal secretariat.

The court order was obtained by Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, in an attempt to limit the protest’s scope.

The #EndBadGovernance movement demands concrete government measures to alleviate economic hardship, inflation, and police brutality.

A significant police presence is evident nationwide as the protest gains momentum. The demonstration is scheduled to continue for 10 days, concluding on August 10. However, today’s events may influence the protest’s future trajectory.”
