Pope Leo XIV Calls for Global Peace in First Sunday Address

In his first Sunday address since being elected as the 267th leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV made a heartfelt appeal for an end to global conflicts, urging world leaders to pursue lasting peace.

Speaking to a crowd of over 100,000 gathered in St. Peter’s Square, in a news where Pope Leo called for an “authentic and lasting peace” in Ukraine, a ceasefire in Gaza, and the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas. He also welcomed the recent ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, expressing hope that negotiations would lead to a permanent resolution.

No more war!” the Pope declared, echoing the sentiments of his predecessor, Pope Francis. He reflected on the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, emphasizing the devastating toll of conflict and the urgent need for diplomacy.
