A pregnant woman in labor has tragically died after reportedly being refused treatment at a hospital due to her inability to pay a ₦500,000 deposit. The heartbreaking incident, shared on Instagram in February by her husband, Akinbobola Folajimi, recently gained widespread attention on X (formerly Twitter).
In a video posted by Folajimi, the expectant mother is seen in a car, visibly weak, as he desperately tries to keep her conscious. He repeatedly calls her name, urging her to stay strong for their children: “My goodness, Kemi, look at me. Stay strong, look at me. Think about your kids, please. You need to be very strong for me,” he pleaded.
Folajimi later revealed that they had initially sought help at a private hospital but were turned away because they couldn’t afford the ₦500,000 deposit. The couple was then referred to a general hospital in Epe, but tragically, she didn’t survive the journey. In his post, Folajimi condemned the private hospital’s actions, writing, “The doctor told me to deposit ₦500,000, and I begged him to start doing whatever was needed to save my wife, but they drove us out like they didn’t care. They rejected us and told me to take her to a general hospital in Epe, even though the doctor knew that Epe was too far for her condition. Before we could get her there, she was gone.”
Folajimi expressed his grief and frustration, saying, “How???? Such a wicked institution. Well, only God knows and sees all. This is just too much for me”
