Premier League referee David Coote has been suspended following the launch of an investigation into a video that allegedly shows him making disrespectful remarks about Liverpool and their former manager, Jurgen Klopp.

The video, reportedly from several years ago, appears to capture Coote referring to Klopp as a “German *” and “fing arrogant.” Coote recently officiated Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) issued a statement on Monday confirming Coote’s suspension. The statement read: “David Coote has been suspended with immediate effect pending a full investigation. PGMOL will be making no further comment until that process is complete.”

PGMOL’s investigation is still in its early stages, and there is a possibility that the video could be a deepfake or generated with artificial intelligence.
