President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in South Africa to co-chair the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission alongside President Cyril Ramaphosa.
This was disclosed on Tuesday by Frederick Nwabufo, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Engagement, in a brief statement shared on X.
According to Nwabufo, Tinubu was welcomed at the airport by South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Roland Lamola, and Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu.
The statement read: “President Tinubu in Cape Town, South Africa, for the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission meeting. He was received by South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Mr. Roland Lamola, alongside Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu.”
The President’s visit follows his recent state visit to France.
In a statement dated December 1, 2024, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, noted that Tinubu departed France for Cape Town on Monday. The Bi-National Commission meeting is set for Tuesday, December 3, with a preceding ministerial meeting held on December 2 at the South African Parliament Building in Cape Town.
During the visit, Tinubu and Ramaphosa will deliberate on a range of bilateral issues, including political consultations, consular and migration matters, banking and finance, defence and security, manufacturing, the social sector, mines and energy, and trade and investments between the two nations.
