President Tinubu Awards Posthumous CFR Honour to Late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja

President Bola Tinubu has posthumously awarded the Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) honor to the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, in recognition of his exceptional service to Nigeria. The conferment was announced during Lagbaja’s burial ceremony in Abuja on Friday, November 15, 2024.

In his tribute, Tinubu praised Lagbaja as a distinguished soldier and patriot whose legacy will endure. “Throughout his military career, his legacy of service will be cherished forever,” Tinubu said. He invited Lagbaja’s widow, Maria, to receive the honor on her husband’s behalf.

The president described Lagbaja as a trusted advisor and one of his best appointments, emphasizing his dedication to the nation and his unwavering commitment to the welfare of his troops. He highlighted Lagbaja’s clear understanding of the military’s role in safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy and territorial integrity.

“Lieutenant General Lagbaja was more than I could have hoped for. He embodied the finest ideals of a patriot and a soldier, displaying uncommon valor and devotion to duty,” Tinubu remarked.

While acknowledging the deep loss felt by the nation, Tinubu urged the military to honor Lagbaja’s memory by continuing their work with determination. “To you, dear gallant officers, do not let death defeat us. Hold your heads high in memory of your Army Chief,” he said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting the military and their families.

Lt. Gen. Lagbaja passed away on November 5, 2024, after a brief illness. His death marks the loss of a leader whose dedication, professionalism, and patriotism left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s Armed Forces.
