President Donald Trump has unveiled the Golden Dome missile defense shield, a state-of-the-art initiative designed to protect the United States from advanced missile threats, including hypersonic weapons, drones, and space-based attacks.

Speaking from the White House, President Trump emphasized the historic significance of the project, stating, “In the campaign, I promised the American people I would build a cutting-edge missile defense shield. Today, I am pleased to announce we have officially selected the architecture for this state-of-the-art system.”

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth highlighted the strategic importance of the Golden Dome, stating, “This system will protect the homeland from cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, hypersonic missiles, and drones—whether conventional or nuclear.”

The Golden Dome will integrate next-generation technologies across land, sea, and space, deploying space-based sensors and interceptors to neutralize threats at every stage of flight. The initiative, led by U.S. Space Force General Michael Guetlein, is expected to be operational within three years, with an initial $25 billion investment and an estimated total cost of $175 billion.

The project draws inspiration from Israel’s Iron Dome, which has successfully intercepted thousands of short-range projectiles since 2011. However, the Golden Dome aims to provide comprehensive national defense, covering the entire U.S. mainland and countering long-range and space-based threats.
