Raphaël Varane Announces Retirement from Football

French professional footballer Raphaël Varane has announced his retirement from the sport at 31.

Varane, who recently suffered a serious knee injury, shared his decision on Instagram, stating:

“I hold myself to the highest standard, I want to go out strong, not just holding on to the game… It takes a big dose of courage to listen to your heart and your instinct.”

In his heartfelt post, Varane reflected on his illustrious career, expressing gratitude to his clubs, teammates, and supporters. He mentioned playing for Lens, Madrid, Manchester, and the French national team, saying:

“I have defended every badge with everything I have, and loved every minute of the journey.”

Varane emphasized having no regrets and being proud of adhering to his principles. He also hinted at staying involved with Como, his current club, without playing.

The retirement announcement follows a decorated career, with numerous accolades, including a trophy win in his final game at Wembley.

Varane’s message concluded:

“Thank you, football. With love, Rapha.”
