Barely eight days after being pardoned by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Sunday Omisakin, a former inmate, has been remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Facility for allegedly breaking into a house to steal a television.
Omisakin, who was listed as number 8 on the governor’s prerogative of mercy list signed on December 26, 2024, had been pardoned for a minor offence. However, on January 3, 2025, he was arrested for allegedly burgling a residence in Osogbo and stealing a plasma television valued at ₦600,000.
He was arraigned before the Osun State Magistrate Court in Osogbo, presided over by Magistrate Adekanmi Adeyeba, on two counts of burglary and theft.
Police prosecutor Inspector Kayode Adeoye told the court that Omisakin broke into the residence of Shittu Damilare at the Al-Medinat Area, Iludun, Osogbo, at around noon on January 3, and stole a plasma TV worth ₦600,000. The offences were said to contravene sections 411(1)(2), 363, and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.
Omisakin pleaded not guilty, and his counsel, Najite Okobe, urged the court to grant him bail on liberal terms. However, the prosecutor opposed the bail application, arguing that Omisakin had recently been pardoned and was still serving his initial sentence when released.
Magistrate Adeyeba denied bail, ordered Omisakin’s remand at the Ilesa Correctional Facility, and adjourned the case to January 10, 2025. Further hearings are scheduled for February 2025.
