Nollywood veteran Rita Dominic has shared a lesser-known chapter of her life, disclosing that she worked as a caregiver in London during a career hiatus in the early 2000s.

Speaking at the Women of Valour International Women’s Day event in Accra, Ghana, the actress candidly revealed the reasons behind her temporary departure from acting during a challenging period in her life.

“In 2001/2002, I stopped acting, and I left the industry. I moved to London because it was a very dark period of my life. I had these issues, fell out with friends I considered family, and I just gave up acting for a while. I needed to get out, just leave that space for a minute,” she shared.

During this hiatus, Rita Dominic found employment as a caregiver for adults with special needs in a care home. She emphasized that, while some might perceive it as a step-down, she didn’t view it that way. Taking care of others brought her joy and purpose, especially during a challenging period.

“I remember I took care of my mother and my father when they were ill because I was alone with them,” she added, reflecting on the role she played in caring for her ailing mother.

Rita Dominic highlighted the painful experience of witnessing her mother’s gradual decline and how she, along with her father, took care of her until her passing in 2001.
